SY 2022-2023

Each school receiving funds under Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) must develop a written school-parent compact jointly with parents for all children participating in Title I, Part A activities, services, and programs. That compact is part of the school’s written parental involvement policy developed by the school and parents under section 1118(b) of the ESEA. The compact must outline how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards. Yearly the compact should be evaluated to determine its effectiveness with revisions made as necessary. Schools must schedule annually a parent/teacher conference to discuss the compact. This school-parent compact is in effect for the 2022-2023 school year.




 School Responsibilities:

The Harmony School Of Excellence – Sugar Land – EL will: 

Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

  • Conferences and staff development developed by our Instructional Leaders. 
  • Promotions on our Website highlighting the awards and honors that we have received for Harmony’s contribution to excellence in education.
  • Teaching the high academic standards using research-based instructional strategies.

Inform families about State standards and our curriculum and assessments, suggest ideas to help parents monitor and support their student’s achievement, and educate on the value of parent involvement by: 

  • Staff-Parent meal, rotated through breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Curriculum information sessions will be held once per semester to discuss academic programs, student expectations, and state assessments
  • Formal Parent-Teacher conferences will be held once per semester 
  • Administration will maintain an open-door policy in order to be available to parents for discussion about student needs and/or concerns
  • Weekly Information newsletters sent to parents Staff/Student/ Parent daily email list. 
  • Individual conversation with counselors.
  • The Parent Academic Resources web site gives detailed information about the resources used in each grade.   

Report academic progress to parents via:

  • Important announcements will continue through the School Reach telephone program
  • School website page will be the primary means for daily announcements. 
  • Annual Title I meetings will be held each year in the first quarter.
    • At this meeting, families will be informed of the school’s Title I program and budget, and the right of parents/guardians to be involved in their child’s education 

Facilitate and encourage parent participation and suggestions in decision making at our school via:

  • Inviting parents to participate as members of the Site Council
    • This includes participating in development of the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • Attending Principal-Parent Meals – agenda set by parents and the Principal
    • The Title I Parent-School Compact is reviewed at this meeting annually
    • The Parent Involvement Policy and Procedures for Harmony will be reviewed at this meeting annually
    • The Title I budget is reviewed at this meeting annually
  • Individual conversations with counselors

Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held: 

  • Conferences
    • Parent-Teacher Conferences each semester. Offer flexible times or house visits for parents who are not available during weekdays.  
    • Individually schedules conferences.
    • Annual IEP meetings (if the student receives Special Education services)

Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: 

  • Report cards mailed home after each nine weeks 
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences during each semester
  • rant phone calls by Advisory teachers twice a year
  • The Parent Academic Resources web site gives detailed information about the resources used in each grade.   

Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: 

  • Orientations
  • Open house
  • Parent Conference Days
  • Meetings at times suitable to both parents and staff
  • Provide information regarding qualifications of their child’s teachers, when requested.

Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: 

  • Parents are encouraged to volunteer at their child’s school and participate in PTO activities
  • Coaching and/or mentoring opportunities will be available to interested parents, in athletic and academic areas on campus. 

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways: 

  • Monitoring attendance
  • Establishing a time for homework
  • Monitoring amount of television children watch
  • Volunteering in the classroom or attending school activities, as schedule allows
  • Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the children’s education and the school
  • Promoting positive use of the child’s extracurricular time
  • Staying informed about the child’s education and communicating with the school
  • Read with the child and encourage child to read on his/her own
  • Work with the child to practice math facts and review math work

Student Responsibilities:

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:  

  • Come to class on time, ready to learn
  • Be responsible for our own actions
  • Listen and follow directions
  • Do our homework every day and bring necessary materials, completed assignments.
  • Respect the school, classmates, staff, and families
  • Ask for help when we need to
  • Read in school and at home
  • Practice reading fluency and math facts
  • Give to our parents all information received from our school every day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In observance of parent/teacher conferences, the school will be closed for students on September 23rd. Classes will resume on Monday, September 26th. Our teachers will be available for conferences between 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Please contact your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment.

We had our Muffins for Moms event this morning. Thank you all for coming!

Daniel is our 8th grade Student of the Week! Congratulations to him. His favorite subject is reading because that is how he gains knowledge. When he is not working on his goal to pass the STAAR, he enjoys playing soccer. He is striving to be an engineer when he is older.

We have done our Second PTO General Meeting. We have delighted to introduce our PTO Executive Committee Members elected for the term 2022-2023.

Shout out to Enaya for earning the 7th Grade Student of the Week at Harmony Excellence MS! She enjoys learning math and solving problems. Some of her favorite hobbies are writing, reading, puzzles, and hanging out with her family. While she is not sure what she would like to be when she is older, she is working hard to master her STAAR exams.

Congratulations to Esra for earning the 6th grade Student of the Week at Harmony Excellence MS! Her favorite subject is Science, which explains her desire of becoming a doctor when she is older. She enjoys reading and making crafts in her free time. This year she is striving to pass all her classes!

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Announcement!

In accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, Harmony Public Schools will begin taking referrals for kindergarten and newly enrolled students in grades 1-12 for gifted and talented screening. 

Anyone interested in the educational welfare of these students may refer them for assessment. Referral forms are available at the front office and on the school’s website.

The deadline for GATE referral is September 30, 2022, and G/T assessment period will take place in October. For more information about the screening and identification process, parents may contact the school’s G/T coordinator or G/T coach/teacher.

De acuerdo con el Plan Estatal de Texas para la Educación de Estudiantes Dotados / Talentosos, las Escuelas Públicas de Harmony comenzarán a recibir referencias para kindergarten y estudiantes recién inscritos en los grados 1-12 para la evaluación de estudiantes dotados y talentosos.

Congratulations to Harmony School of Excellence-MS August Teacher of the Month, Mr. Dirks!
Mr. Dirks is the 7th grade ELA teacher, and he has worked hard to establish a positive culture for his students. He also coaches our girl’s Soccer Team. Mr. Dirks exemplifies our core values by having
the ability to motivate and encourage students to advance beyond their expectations both academically and socially.
